Says Who: Nobody Declared National Pasta Day

Nobody declared National Pasta Day. October 17 has no named founder, while World Pasta Day has a congress, a place and a date.

Nobody declared National Pasta Day.

October 17 appears on calendars as National Pasta Day, often labeled “since 1995,” but no proclamation, trade group or named founder comes with it. Pasta has older receipts: al-Idrisi described dried itriyya made at Trabia in Sicily in 1154, and a Genoese notary inventoried a basket of macaroni in 1279. The Marco Polo story appeared in America’s Macaroni Journal in October 1929. The documented 1995 pasta date is October 25, when pasta makers at the first World Pasta Congress in Rome agreed on World Pasta Day. National Day Calendar in Mandan offers approved new days in brand packages, and its Pasta Day page still says it is researching the origin. The day is real because you are keeping it.
