The Early Bird Gets the Worm
Everyone quotes the early bird. Nobody asks the worm. We woke him up at six in the morning to ask.
Nobody ever asks the worm.
The naturalist John Ray printed "The early bird catcheth the worm" in his Collection of English Proverbs in 1670. The worm's side of it came later: in 1897 the magazine Puck printed "The early bird may get the worm, but the early worm gets eaten."
