Graveyard Shift

A tired cemetery caretaker meets very demanding residents while the phrase takes us to an old mine.

The quietest job in town has a service bell.

An exhausted cemetery caretaker discovers that his residents expect all-night hotel service, while an 1884 Arizona mining report and an 1894 Colorado court decision point to the expression in early workplace use. An 1868 safety-coffin patent documents the device, but it does not establish the popular coffin-bell origin story; the exact naming moment remains unknown.
