Sly as a Fox
A charming fox in a velvet smoking jacket takes a bow through history, and where "sly as a fox" comes from.
He prefers "misunderstood."
In Aesop's fable, a fox praises a crow's voice until she sings and drops her lunch. In the 1100s the trickster Reynard got so famous that French swapped its old word for fox, goupil, for his name, Machiavelli told rulers in 1513 to be a fox to spot the traps, and a Czech study of nearly 600 pounces found that foxes leaping north-east caught their mouse about three times in four.
