A fussy 1830s editor explains how a Boston spelling joke became the word the whole world says.
Two letters, spelled wrong on purpose.
In 1839 a Boston paper printed "o.k." as a joke for "oll korrect". A fussy newspaper editor, a red pencil, and a cameo from Martin Van Buren, "Old Kinderhook", tell how it stuck.
